Part Counting System for Windows

This system includes a PC Part Lookup and Reporting program, a WI-130 with counting software, a hand-held bar-code scanner, and a label printer. The purpose of the system is to generate a bar-code label as a container of parts is weighed and counted on the scale.

When a part is weighed, the operator inputs a part number into the WI-130. The part number is then transmitted to the PC application. The PC looks up the part number in the part database, and transmits all relative data about the part back to the WI-130. Included in this data is the UPC code, average piece weight, and the default container tare weight. The WI-130 then determines the count, prints a bar-code label, and transmits the count data back to the PC.

PC Part Lookup

The PC program features a monitor screen, part add/edit/delete, manual upload, and reports. The main screen of the program is the monitor screen. Each time the PC receives a request for a part record from the WI-130, the monitor screen is updated with the part record, and the record is transmitted to the WI-130. The top portion of the screen shows the part data, while the bottom portion shows the last completed count transaction from the production lines. Each time a successful count transaction is completed on the production line, that data is transmitted to the PC and stored in the PC database.

The part database provides part data to the production lines. Parts can added, edited, or deleted within the PC program. The part edit form contains the part ID, UPC code, description, piece weight, and container tare weight.

In the course of sending completed transactions to the PC, the WI-130 saves a copy of the transaction in it’s memory in case the transaction does not get stored in the PC. Normally, the transaction will be saved, and will automatically be removed from the WI-130’s memory. In case the transaction is not stored by the PC, a backup remains in the WI-130. These backups can be uploaded to the PC manually by selecting Upload Manual Transactions from the PC program menu.

The PC Part Lookup program provides several reports including a Transaction Listing sorted by time/date, part, or by line, number of parts counted, a comma-delimited ASCII export file, and an Access 2.0 export file. A starting and ending date can be entered for each report, and these reports can be sent to the screen or a printer.

WI-130 Counting Program

The counting program features three keys – PART, RPRNT, and SETUP. The Setup key is used to print container tare weight bar-code labels.

To begin the counting process, place the part on the scale and press the PART key. Scan the part number using the bar-code scanner. The WI-130 will transmit the part number to the PC Part Lookup System. When the part data is received from the PC, the WI-130 displays the data on the screen.

At this point, the operator has the option to change the tare weight, sample a new piece weight, cancel the operation, or accept the data. If the data is accepted, the system captures the weight on the scale, prints a label, and transmits the completed count transaction to the PC Reporting System.

In case of a paper jam or other malfunction, the last label can be reprinted by pressing the RPRNT key.

This program is also available for the PC-820. u
